While New Orleans is perhaps the most well-known locale for the celebration of Mardi Gras, a number of other cities in the region honor the festivities as well. The joy and fanfare of the carnival season can be felt even as far away as Minden, Louisiana, in the northwestern portion of the state. Certain local organizations take part intensively. Among them, the Krewe des Ambassadeurs was founded in 2001, and since then, the group has actively participated in staging an extravagant seasonal ball and in constructing lavish floats for the Mardi Gras Parade.
In recent years, the people of Minden have embraced their German heritage by incorporating a celebration of Fasching (often described as the German equivalent of Mardi Gras) into the pre-Lenten season. The king and queen of the Krewe des Ambassadeurs has served as royalty for the weekend’s events.
This coming January, the Krewe and its members can look forward to float preparation and their Grand Bal XII. Also in that month, on the 26th, the Krewe will once again add their float to the Minden Fasching Karnevale and Mardi Gras Parade.
